Kangasaurus-Transmission Genetics

Judith Kinnear
The University of Sydney, NSW, Australia

A fascinating simulation that provides an open framework for discovering and mastering genetics concepts. Students design the genetic system for an imaginary "Kangasaurus", manipulate variables, observe effects and predict the outcomes of crosses to test hypotheses. Option for computer setup of genetic system for students to solve. Features extensive visual images that enhance students' reasoning and help them to see new relationships. Variables include:
number of  autosomes; sex chromosome system; gene type, locus and function; number of alleles; gene lethality, linkage and crossing over. Lab activities are provided.

"Kangasaurus is the most flexible, best documented, and most useful genetics program I have ever experienced."
