AIR POLLUTION

This simulation of carbon monoxide in "Pollution City" actively involves students in the causes, effects and control of this problem. They change variables affecting CO levels, check health effects, use "worse case analysis" and determine safety margins. Exploratory section with extensive visuals on the sources and effects of air pollution, and computer models.

HOTHOUSE PLANET

A high-impact program on a vital issue, the warming of Earth, and what can be done to control the upward spiral of greenhouse gases. Students vary CO2, CH4, CFCs and NO2 to see their potential effects on temperature and sea level. Volcanic activity and solar irradiance can also be varied and results assessed. Global and local effects are studied. Multiple photos.

OUR OZONE CRISIS

With interactive exercises, this powerful, multi-part program develops awareness of the changes in the Earth's atmosphere, their causes and effects. Features background on ozone; video of ozone hole; CFCs; skin cancer; ultraviolet protection; predicting future ozone levels. Database of ozone levels at 150 sites allows analysis of changes on a global scale.

WATER POLLUTION

An interactive simulation of the impact of pollution on aquatic life. Offers students realistic problems in four different water environments with variable temperature, waste type, dumping rate and treatment methods. Exploratory section with extensive visuals on the properties of water, the water cycle and the effects of water pollution.

HOME ENERGY CONSERVATION

Actively involves students in analyzing and improving energy usage. Spreadsheet provides immediate answers to "What if" changes.

Home Heating Audit: House specifications, climate and fuel are varied to show conservation effect and cost effectiveness. Results displayed in summary table, "heat photo" in color, and bar graph.

Electricity and Hot Water: From lists of the major categories of consumption, students manipulate appliance wattage and/or hours used to determine effects of changes in efficiency and/or use patterns
