	Volcano Lab Activities The 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens sparked heightened interest in volcanoes. Even though Kilauea in Hawaii had been erupting off and on for decades, its relatively quiet flows failed to spark the same level of interest. Why were the two eruptions so different?
